AMERICA: A group of members or employees at a US Apple store have gathered to vote to form a union, an attempt for the text giant, which has tried so much to discourage unionizing steps.
The vote counting was going broadcast live from Saturday by the federal agency. This is claimed that of the 110 employees at the Towson and Maryland shop 65 voted in favor and 33 against for agenda.
The name of the agenda is AppleCORE (Coalition of Organized Retail Employees) which favors a group of employees giving their votes for creating unionization.
AppleCORE tweeted that “We did it, Towson! We won our union vote! Thanks to all who worked so hard and all who supported! Now we celebrate… Tomorrow we keep organizing,”
They are raising a point in favor of wages, hours, and safety facilities.
On Saturday, results show that the group of employees, who have been voting since Wednesday, have been allowed to form their own union of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), once the agency will get certified and official results.
The President of the International Association of Machinists Robert Martinez Jr stated that he praised the courage of workers.
He also added a statement by saying “They made a huge sacrifice for thousands of Apple employees across the nation who had all eyes on this election. I ask Apple CEO Tim Cook to respect the election results and fast-track a first contract for the dedicated IAM CORE Apple employees in Towson,.”This victory shows the growing demand for unions at Apple stores and different industries across our nation.”
This was not the first time that employees at an Apple store tried to unionize, but this time tye tried hard by getting results in a vote.
PRAISED FOR THE COURAGE OF WORKERS
Deirdre O´Brien the director of distribution and human resources, visited the shop in may to handle the situation and employees.
O´Brien said, according to audio published by Vice “I want to start by saying it´s your right to join a union, but it´s equally your right not to join a union,”
“If you´re faced with that decision, I want to encourage you to consult a wide range of people and sources to understand what it could be like to work at Apple under a collective bargaining agreement.”
She stated that the presence of an intermediary would make complicate relations between Apple and its employees.
According to Silicon Valley on the news giant AFP, it was “declining to comment”
President Joe Biden voiced his support, Unions on the decline for decades, have won several symbolic victories in the United States in recent months.
After a group of employees formed a union at two Starbucks coffee shops in December in the northern city of Buffalo, members at more than 160 of the chain location have filed for similar votes.
On the other hand, employees of Amazon at a New York warehouse shocked everyone in the month of April by voting compellingly to form a union, a first for the online retail colossus in the United States. But the organization has requested for the result to be voided and a second vote to be held for the next time.
