Dr. Nauman Niaz, a sports broadcaster. Responded to the criticism he received following a heated disagreement. With former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, saying, “one side of the story always attracts.”
Soon after Pakistan crushed New Zealand in the T20 World Cup. The PTV Sports show “Game on Hai” had some unwanted drama late Tuesday night.
Dr. Nauman Niaz and sprinter Shoaib Akhtar got into an argument with Haris Rauf on the show on Tuesday.
“I wonder why one has to be reminded shoaib100mph is a star,” Following a response on social media, Niaz said on Twitter.
“He [Akhtar] has been the best of the best, he shall always be. He has brought laurels to the country is undeniable,” he added.
Niaz continued, ““One side of the story always attracts [attention] nonetheless having been friends for ages I’ll always wish him the best.”
- What exactly happened throughout the show?
When the visitors gathered to discuss the game after Pakistan’s victory, a squabble developed.
Niaz appeared to take offence and snapped back at Akhtar while he was going over some cricket trivia. During which he attributed the Pakistan Super League’s Lahore Qalandars club. For discovering Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf.
WOW!!!! Shoaib Akhtar just walks out of PTV Sports during live show. "jis tarah national TV par mere sath behave kiya gaya hai, I don't think I should be sitting here. I am resigning from PTV" Right thing to do after Dr Nauman Niaz insulting a national hero on national TV. 👏 https://t.co/vmA0BtbaDU pic.twitter.com/EPuqzweoqr— Hassan (@iamhassan9) October 26, 2021
“You’re being a little rude and I don’t want to say this: but if you’re being over smart, you can go. I am saying this on-air,”
Niaz told Shoaib, who was taken aback, before cutting him off and going on to the next guest for their response.
It wasn’t clear what had irritated Niaz, and Shoaib appeared to be caught off guard.
Niaz requested a commercial break as the tension in the room rose as a result of the interruption.
The event was later resumed, but the mood remained tense. And Akhtar appeared to be struggling to get over the manner he had been cut off, despite his best efforts.
After apologising to the other guests, which included Sana Mir, Sir Viv Richards. And David Gower, among others, he eventually chose to leave the show.
“A lot of apologies guys, a lot of apologies. I am resigning from PTV. The way I have been treated on national TV, I don’t think I should be sitting here right now. So, I am resigning. Thank you very much,” Before unclipping his mic and rising from the table, he stated.
Shoaib’s exit seemed to have had little effect on Niaz. Who resumed reading from his script as if nothing had happened.
Later, Akhtar posted a video statement on Twitter clarifying his position on the situation. Claiming he was willing to bury the hatchet in order to avoid additional embarrassment.
He did, however, request an apology from Niaz on live. Which Niaz refused to provide.
“Multiple clips are circulating on social media so I thought I should clarify. Dr Noman was obnoxious and rude when he asked me to leave the show, it was embarrassing especially when you have legends like Sir Vivian Richards and David Gower sitting on the set with some of my contemporaries and seniors and millions watching.
“I tried to save everyone from embarrassment by saying I was pulling Dr Noman’s leg with this mutual understanding that Dr Noman will also politely apologise and we will move on with the show, which he refused to do. Then I had no other choice,” Said Shoaib Akhtar.
On Twitter, the event sparked uproar, with many demanding for Nauman Niaz to be fired. For denigrating a national hero on live television.
