How To Prevent Hernias in Men

Hernias can happen to both genders but it is seen affecting men more than women. It usually arises when tissue or an organ tears through the muscle which holds it in place. Hernias don’t treat or get better on their own, they need medical help. It’s better you don’t leave them to heal on their own as they can be life-threatening if not treated on time.

”

The question that arises here is that how should the prevention be done? According to the best general surgeon in Rawalpindi, the treatment, if not done timely can cause serious damage that may lead to surgery. It should be kept in mind that not all hernias are curable and some aren’t preventable even.

Only inguinal hernias are treatable as they are the most common ones to form due to weakness or pressure from the abdomen or the intestines. Although weakness cannot be cured, ways to reduce the pressure are surely available.

Here are some of the ways, that you can use to prevent men from hernias.

Keep a Healthy Body Weight

We all are familiar with the fact that when a person is overweight the presence of fat in the person’s body is more than it should be which is quite unhealthy. Having extra fat in your body can put pressure on the belly and make it protrude outwards, it then puts pressure on the internal side of the tummy which causes a hernia.

Not all the exercises are suitable for you when you’re suffering from a hernia, so do consult your doctor.

Opt For Suitable Exercise

Doing the certain type of exercises can help you prevent hernias. Allah the physical activities if done right can help men with a hernia. You obviously don’t have to be a gym freak but it is necessary to choose the exercises that don’t involve weight training or any weight-containing dumbbells.

Other exercises that are very suitable are, yoga, aerobics, pilates, and lightweight training. Don’t get up too fast or work out too fast as this can tear up your muscles and increase the risk of hernias even more.

Eat foods high in fiber

Opt for foods that are rich in fiber and have healthy fiber content. In this way, you can help your bowel movements to work regularly and prevent constipation.  This then prevents pressure on the abdomen and eventually hernias. Try to add legumes, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts.

You can also use fiber supplements and laxatives to make your stool bulky easy to pass out so that you don’t have to push the stools out which leads to hernias. You can also go for other oils that help in relieving constipation and keeping yourself hydrated.

Work on your Core Strength

You can decrease the risk of getting a hernia by making your muscles of the core strength. The muscles that come in your core include the pelvic muscles and gluteus maximus. There are certain exercises for core strengthening these work to strengthen the muscles in the abdomen and the groin as well.

The best and number one exercise to increase the strength of the core is by doing planks.

Control diabetes

Men who are dependent on insulin for a healthy lifestyle have an increased risk of getting a hernia again after the surgery. Don’t inject insulin in the belly area and the area around where you have the scar of the surgery.

You can control your diabetes by taking the diet that your doctor recommends. It can also be controlled by taking a healthy diet full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and by lowering the sugar, salt intake, and trans fat.

Quit smoking

Just like other diseases, the hernia is also triggered by smoking. This is because smokers are more likely to cough in spells which contribute to a major factor in the development of a hernia. Try to avoid smoking to reduce the risk of suffering from a hernia.

”

Conclusion

A hernia is a very serious illness that is oftentimes ignored. The protruding mass that comes out from the belly button is often intermingled with constipation or stool stuck in the intestines. It is very important to opt for foods that help you stay away from getting diabetes, weight gain, and constipation.
