PIA is Resuming ‘Sadpara’ Air Safari Service

Zahra June 26, 2021

On Monday, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced the reopening of its Air Safari service.

PIA has named this service ‘Sadpara Air Safari,’ after the renowned climber Ali Sadpara, who died along with two foreign mountaineers while attempting to conquer K2 in the winter.

The inaugural flight of Air Safari will travel from Islamabad to Skardu, as all preparations for the reintroduction of PIA’s Air Safari service have been completed. A schedule will be announced by the airliner in the coming days. Passengers will be flown through snow-capped peaks in the country’s north. Pakistan’s tallest mountains, K2 and Nanga Parbat are famous among mountaineers. At 8,611 meters above sea level, K2 is the world’s second-highest peak.

The national flag carrier announced intentions to begin its Air Safari service in 2018. However, due to operational issues, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cancelled its scheduled commercial launch of the Air Safari flight just days after announcing it.

To promote tourism, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) last week granted a TPRI (Tourism Promotion and Regional Integration) licence to North Air, a newly founded private airline.

According to reports, the privately created new airline would fly to Gilgit, Skardu, Chitral, and Gwadar. Initially, the airline would fly between Islamabad and Gilgit, Islamabad-Skardu, Islamabad-Chitral and Islamabad-Gwadar.
