“It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.“Agnes Repplier
Some people say that money plays a part in the quest for happiness. Despite this, studies demonstrate that when people’s fundamental requirements are addressed and they receive a basic income, they are not happier.
When life does not go as planned, there are ways to discover delight in the smallest aspects, in my experience:
1. Do Things You Love
Getting trapped in a routine can lead to emotions of frustration and despair, yet stepping out of a routine to do something you love to do every day may leave you feeling refreshed. Doing something you enjoy every day can boost your happiness, which can contribute to overall better health.
2. Expect Less
When you have low expectations, you are more likely to exceed them, which will make you pleased. Similarly, if your expectations are too high, they are less likely to be met, making you unhappy.
Before you make a series of expectations for other people, consider how you can fulfill them yourself. Take control of everything that makes you feel happy. Don’t rely on people to provide you with happiness in your life. Love and care for yourself as much as you want others to do for you.
3. Don’t Compare Yourself To Others
Through Facebook, Instagram, and hundreds of other platforms, our culture has made it increasingly simple to compare ourselves to others.
We might become overly involved in the lives of others and lose sight of our own. Everyone’s situation is different.
Comparing oneself to others will lead to emptiness and suffering. While the lives of others may appear to be perfect from the outside, there is a hidden drama that we do not know. It is possible to modify and stop the patterns of comparing in order to attain happiness.
4. Be Grateful
Simply being grateful may improve your mood significantly. Begin each day by expressing gratitude for one thing. Try to keep an eye out for positive things in your life as you go about your day. Many successful people state that gratitude is the secret to their success. Consider what you are thankful for. Do you appreciate your friends? What about your family? What opportunities has life given you? There is so much to be thankful for, from the smallest to the most substantial.
Exercise is beneficial to more than just your physical health. Regular exercise can help to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms while also enhancing self-esteem and happiness. Even a tiny quantity of physical activity can have a significant impact.
6. Practice Regular Acts of Kindness
The act of helping others activates the region of your brain that produces pleasure. It also produces oxytocin, a hormone that helps in the modulation of social relationships and mood; the higher your oxytocin levels, the more compassionate you may be. Here are some you can practice:
- Express appreciation to your friends, family, or partner.
- Listen to someone without interrupting.
- Compliment someone about anything.
- Help an elderly person.
