The Actual Meaning Of Feminism

I asked many people what feminism is? Some of them replied “having equal rights for women” well this is true. But the precise explanation of feminism is to have equal rights for women economically, politically, and socially.

History Of Feminism 

Let’s talk about the history of feminism. The word feminism came from féminisme(french). the first French author who wrote about feminism is “Charles Fourier,” he was the first person who talks about female rights. He believes that women should not be treated in a subordinate or unequal way simply because they are women.

Feminism In Islam

If we are discussing the rights of women by the teachings of Islam then we just have to remember the history of Islam. Islam gives women their rights and respect way before this feminism word came.

Let me explain further about feminism.

Women’s rights 

Education

Many facing an issue of not getting an education because the mindset of this society is that women don’t need to study because she has to cook and manage the households but that’s not a point a girl can study according to Islam she can study properly.

Profession

If she decides to pursue her career and if she wants to run a business or be a successful woman, it’s her right. Our Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) first wife Hazrat Khadija (S.A.W) was a successful businesswoman and she used to help others when somebody needed it. She used to run a business adequately.

Difficulty In Employment

There are so many problems for working women they don’t get equal rights in their job, they don’t get equal pay.not getting hired for a job because you are a woman. So many things which should be treated fairly. Well, all gender should be treated equally in the office.

Domestic Violence

Many women facing domestic violence which is not right in any religion especially not in Islam. Again if we take a look at the history of Islam we can see that killing or fighting with women was prohibited even in jihad.

Pressure Of Society 

With the pressure of staying in a disastrous marriage for the sake of family and society, women are getting devastated. The philosophy of this society is that women should stay married and tolerate his or his family’s insolent behavior.

Forced marriages

Forced marriages are so common which is not right and according to the teachings of Islam, our Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) asked his daughter Hazrat Fatima(S.A.W)that if she wants to marry Hazrat Ali (S.A.W) before saying yes by himself.

Final Thoughts

Feminism is not what so many of us are spreading around. Doing things that are prohibited for health – FOR MEN AND WOMEN BOTH like (I read somewhere “normalize female smokers” )well I don’t think this is cool or it’s for the rights of women. Yes, feminism is having equal rights but just think for a moment smoking is injurious to the health for men and women both in fact, we should stop everyone from smoking, and slogans like(mera jism meri marzi)is not acceptable especially not in Muslim countries.

We don’t have to promote feminism like this in an Islamic country. we got our rights centuries ago. we just have to read the Quran and should do according to the teachings. Share your thoughts about feminism.
