NEPRA INCREASES ELECTRICITY TARIFF BY 9.66 PER UNIT
The new increment in the prices of electricity for Rs9.66 per unit has been placed by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority NEPRA for K-Electric consumers.
To adjustment of fuel in the context of May, no other option instead of increasing the prices of electricity said K- Electric officials. Moreover, the company undergoes the burden of Rs 380 billion.
NEPRA is open to discussing the issue in detail after examining the data.
Giving comments on the issue, Chairman NEPRA stated that if the company was facing complications in delivering cheap electricity to the consumer, they may get help from the electricity authority. “We are ready to talk to the Federal and Provincial governments for cheap electricity,” he said.
It may important to note that in June, NEPRA had increased the electricity prices by Rs5.27 per unit to K-Electric to account for the fuel cost adjustment for April 2022.
PROTEST AGAINST PROLONGED ELECTRICITY OUTAGE
On the other, Jamat e Islami President Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, started a sit-in held yesterday(July 3) at the K-Electric head office and had started a three-day deadline for the power utility administration to end the load shedding problem.
A few days back, the irritated people of Karachi had landed on the streets to protest against long hourly power outages in this burning and humid weather.
Protestors came through several areas of the country and the commercial hub (Karachi) became the place of war which were going between city police and citizen with rocks, tear gas, and baton charge. Meanwhile, several protestors had arrested by Police after talks between the two sides failed.
During the protest, a 60-year-old woman reportedly died in the Karachi Mauripur area on June 28, following city police action against the protest of prolonged load shedding.

Moreover, on June 29, the “City of Lights” endured scheduled and unscheduled electricity outages for long hours, creating hot hell life for the citizen in the historical high burning weather. Now, Karachi took a relief breath after the Sindh government had announced a reduction in power outages “within 4 hours”.
This news had announced by Sindh Minister for Energy Imtiaz Sheikh and provincial minister Saeed Ghani during a press conference with K-Electric (KE) officials in Karachi.
