Twitter recently revealed that some of its source code had been leaked by an unidentified user on GitHub. The company now demands that Github identify the user responsible for the leak. Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, has taken legal action against the people who leaked the source code. As a result, Twitter is now requesting that Github reveal information about the user who leaked the code.
It’s accounted for that Github proceeded to eliminate the spilled source code, only a couple of hours after it was transferred. However, Twitter doesn’t just want Github to remove its source code; it also wants information about the person who posted it.
Twitter asked the platform owned by Microsoft to “identify the alleged infringer or infringers who posted Twitter’s source code on systems operated by GitHub without Twitter’s authorization” in a recent court filing.
The username of the Leaker who uploaded Twitter’s source code to Github was “FreeSpeechEnthusiast,” a reference to Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter and self-described “supporter” or “free speech absolutist.”
Elon Musk, who recently let go of more than half of Twitter’s employees, believes that fired or current employees pose a serious threat to the platform. The left wing, which appears to be offended by Twitter’s decision to unblock the accounts of several left-wing leaders, the most prominent of whom is the former president of the United States, joins the list of people who pose a threat.
Julian Moore, assistant general counsel for Twitter, stated in the court filing that the Digital Millennium Copyright Act justifies their request to identify the user.
