REGULAR COACH OF PAKISTAN SUPER LEAGUE- DEAN JONES PASSES AWAY

Dean Jones, former Australian batsman, and former coach of Pakistan Super League died at the age of 59 due to cardiac arrest.

Jones was in Mumbai for commentary of Indian Premier League 2020 airing by Star Sports, where he suddenly collapses in the lobby of a hotel in Mumbai and died due to cardiac arrest on 24th September 2020.

As per the sources of an Australian newspaper, when jones collapsed, his fellow cricketers Aussie and Brett Lee desperately tried to revive him but couldn’t manage it.

DEAN JONES JOURNEY OF PAKISTAN SUPER LEAGUE

He was a regular coach of PSL, and made Islamabad United owned by Mr. Ali Naqvi, to win the league two times, one in 2016 and 2018. In 2019, he joined the most famous team of PSL Karachi Kings owned by Mr. Salman Iqbal. In 2020, he was the regular coach of Karachi Kings and made them to qualify for the semi-finals. His coaching helped Karachi Kings to make their way through the semis.

He was looking forward to visiting Pakistan shortly, for the resumed matches of PSL as they were postponed due to COVID-19. He said that he was excited to visit Pakistan with his side’s foreign players.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER- PLAYER, COACH AND COMMENTATOR

Jones played 52 test matches and 164 ODI matches as an Australian batsman. He had an excellent record in test cricket and best remembered for his ODI cricket. He was among the best ODI batsmen of the world in the late 1980s-1990s. In 2019, he was introduced to the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.

He was a courageous, attacking, and stony player, made total 3631 runs at an average of 46.55 in tests, while 6068 runs at an average of 44.61 in ODIs with seven (7) centuries and forty-six (46) fifties. He achieved 5th no. on the all-time ICC Batting Rankings in the format.

After retiring in 1998, he continued in his career as a coach, commentator, and writer for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald. He was also observed to be a fundraiser for cancer patients. 

On 12th June 2006 on the Queen’s Birthday Honors List, Jones was made a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for “service to cricket as a player, coach, commentator, and to the community through fundraising activities for organizations assisting cancer patients”.

Jones has achieved a lot in his career. He received the nickname “Professor Deano” after giving a pitch report for a tv show by dressing up as a Professor before the group stage match between India and Srilanka for the 2004 Asia Cup.

He was one of the finest, and emerging broadcaster in history. He done commentary for the Indian Premier League (IPL), Tamil Nadu Premier League, and in Karnataka Premier League. He also voiced his opinions on reviewing international cricket in Pakistan since 2009. Besides, he also worked as a commentator for the fifth edition of the Shpageeza Cricket League in 2017, in Afghanistan.

Dean Jones was a precious gem of the whole cricket treasure and will be missed for all that he has done so far.
