Following in the footsteps of Twitter’s Paid Verification system, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has announced its entry into the paid verification trend. This makes Meta the first mainstream social media platform, apart from Twitter, to offer paid verification badges.
Paid Verification
The paid verification feature will be available to all users on both Facebook and Instagram. Similar to Elon Musk’s paid verification on Twitter, users can obtain a verification badge for a monthly fee of £9.99. To subscribe to this feature, users must be at least 18 years old and provide a government ID to verify their details.
Meta had already introduced the verification feature in other countries such as the US, Australia, and New Zealand. Users who expressed interest in the service will receive notifications as the verification rollout progresses.
According to Meta, the verification system will help reduce the risk of impersonation, as Facebook will actively monitor and address any fake IDs created in verified users’ names. Additionally, paid users will have access to a dedicated Meta representative who can assist them with any account-related issues.
Considering the pattern observed on other platforms, Meta may introduce exclusive services for paid users in the future. These services could include features like uploading higher quality videos or additional reaction options. The possibilities for such offerings are vast, and it remains to be seen what Meta will unveil. Feel free to share your predictions in the comments below!
