6 hyped ism-oriented ideologies you should be aware of:

Sidra Younus November 4, 2020

In today’s era we, humans have been subjected to many ideologies which have been subjective in their context and have been under extreme controversial debates. So, we decided to low-down some of these terms that you may hear quite often into brief sections for your better understanding.

  1. Feminism

I bet you’ve all heard of the term feminism. The topic feminism is quite subjective in its nature as people have different views and perceptions about it, not to forget, the constantly never-ending debate going with regards to its narrative. So, here’s a brief definition of the term for you to have an idea of what it really is; Feminism at its heart is the belief in women’s complete social, economic, and political equality. Feminism primarily emerged in reaction to Western practices that limited women’s rights, although there are global forms and variations in feminist thoughts and groups.

2. Racism

Recently the George Floyd case made its way to the headlines and invoked people once again to talk against racism and to end this stereotype. People started hashtags in favor of the black lives to show their solidarity to the people of colour.

Now, let’s talk the basic idea of racism which is the marginalisation and/or discrimination of people of colour and favouring white people by a socially created racial hierarchy. Interestingly, the fact that this hierarchy had been created by the favoured group is enough to make the ideology and existence of racism invalid.

3. Colonialism

Colonialism is now normally considered derogatory and is associated with crude exploitation of the oppressed group. Though, only a few would ignore this reality at times of suppression, economic exploitation and an apathy for humanistic and fundamental rights.

This term can be taken as “control over a dependent region or people by one force.” It happens when one nation subjugates another, occupying and manipulating its population, often while imposing its own language and cultural values on its people. One such historic example includes the sub-continent colonialism by the east India company and we still suffer with the aftermaths.

4. Atheism

Generally, Atheists are attributed to devote towards science. But there are no centralised principles that atheists follow. Atheism does not automatically mean that a person believes in the big bang theory, or Darwinian evolution.

In general, atheism is a rejection of God or the gods. Atheists are people who believe that constructs, myths and legends are man-made gods or gods (or other divine beings), or who believe that these definitions are not meaningful.

5. Liberalism

Liberalism is often employed in a chaotically diversified ways both in political perception and social sciences.

It is both, a philosophy and a movement aimed at improving the cause, development, etc. of individuals through justifying the right to choose the most desired alternatives, and to accept the constraints on state authority for that purpose.

6. Sexism

Sexism means sex or gender-oriented discrimination, or the assumption that discrimination is justified because men are superior to women accompanied with gender role elucidation.

Sexist views or philosophy includes opinions and concepts that hold one group that is usually male to be deservedly superior to the other usually the female based on their sex or appearance and this is how they justify oppressing members of the other group.
