Reverse Vending Machine Launched at Islamabad

On Saturday, Malik Amin Aslam, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Climate Change, unveiled the first reverse vending machine (RVM) for plastics at Islamabad’s Jinnah Supermarket. Customers may recycle while they are on the go thanks to the vending machine. In the machine, any plastic bottle may be utilized.

”

The RVM works similarly to a vending machine but in reverse. Customers must press the start button on the touch screen for the RVM to open a slot for the plastic bottle (of any brand and size). The RVM compresses the bottle once it is put, preparing it for the following steps in the recycling process.

After it has been crushed and recycled, the machine will give you Rs.100 incentive, i.e. a discount on your next KFC purchase. Malik Amin Aslam further informed the media that the concept will be tested for two months and, if successful, will be adopted in other cities around Pakistan.

”

The RVM is a partner in the government’s and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Clean Green Pakistan program and has committed to take major measures to handle the problem of plastic trash.

PepsiCo is the firm that installs these Reverse Vending Machines. PepsiCo Pakistan will expand its existing 4750 tons of plastics collecting program by another 5500 tons in 2021, for a total of 10,250 tons of plastics collected and recycled.
